DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As an integral part of our Transportation Team, you will be responsible for providing design and drafting support for MTO and municipal projects. Projects include highway widenings, bridge and culvert rehabilitations/replacements, interchanges, urban and rural projects for arterial, collector and local roads and intersections. Duties include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Designing and drafting of engineering/construction drawings by creating plans, profiles and 3-D drawings in Civil 3D and InRoads format (InRoads experience will be considered as an added value);
  • Interpreting and implementing standards from regulatory bodies;
  • Providing support for junior staff on drafting and design; and
  • Keeping up to date on the latest design tools and aids in CAD/civil 3D/InRoads in consultation with senior CAD staff.  

Other duties will include:

 

  • Producing written reports;
  • Producing design spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel;
  • Enhancing data charts and tables for presentations;
  • Preparing quantities utilizing InRoads and/or Civil 3D;
  • Preparing tender documents and costs estimates;
  • Maintaining positive client relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Providing site inspections for design projects; and
  • Providing support for junior staff on drafting and design.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Completion of a college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent experience;
  • 1 - 3 years’ consulting experience completing Transportation projects for MTO or Municipal clients;
  • 1 - 3 years’ experience working in CAD;
  • Well-developed computer and analytical skills;
  • Proficiency working with CAD packages such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D;
  • Knowledge of or experience in the field on construction projects would be an asset;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving skills and ability to think creatively;
  • Ability to work with engineers on multidisciplinary projects; and
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle with valid registration and insurance.
