DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

We are currently seeking an Intermediate Engineer to join our Highway Engineering Team in North Bay.  Join a collaborative team working on a wide range of transportation/highway engineering projects including preliminary and detail design for freeways, interchanges, roundabouts, urban and rural arterials, and supports bridge/culvert replacement and rehabilitation projects.


As a member of our Highway Engineering Team, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting senior staff with engineering design on a variety of MTO design projects;
  • Providing support and mentoring junior engineers, engineering interns, and technologists;
  • Preparing technical designs, specifications and reports for a variety of highway/transportation projects;
  • Understanding of construction methods in order to accurately calculate design quantities, construction schedules, and construction cost estimates;
  • Coordinating with internal and external design teams to advance design deliverables is a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Participating in the preparation of engineering services proposals;
  • Monitoring and controlling design schedules and budgets;
  • Liaising with clients, government and/or regulatory bodies as well as contractors;
  • Maintaining positive client relationships with internal and external stakeholders; and
  • Monitoring industry standards and developments, assessing client needs and making concrete decisions on proposed solutions. 


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a university degree in Civil Engineering;
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario (P.Eng.);
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience working on MTO design projects;
  • Demonstrated experience in preliminary and detail design work with proven design capabilities;
  • Project/design management experience;
  • Thorough knowledge in Highway Engineering including policies, regulations, guidelines and operational procedures;
  • Thorough knowledge of MTO project delivery and processes;
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving skills and ability to think creatively;
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, with clients and other relevant stakeholders;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team; and
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle with valid registration and insurance.
