DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


This role is an exciting opportunity for a junior level regulatory and environmental specialist to work within a growing and fast paced regulatory and emissions focused team. The ideal candidate will be willing and interested in learning and working on regulatory compliance, emission reduction solutions, and sustainability for our oil and gas clients. Reporting to the Manager, Regulatory and Environmental Development, Energy, duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Support McIntosh Perry Energy Ltd. (MPEL) clientele and project engineering staff in completing applications, advising and emissions quantification support relating to oil and gas development, specifically:
    • Advise on regulatory requirements for oil and gas developments and amendments
    • Support the quantification of greenhouse gas emissions using Alberta Environment and Parks quantification protocols
    • Understand, interpret and communicate regulatory changes, government funding programs and industry updates related to greenhouse gas emissions within the oil and gas industry
  • Complete facility and pipeline applications, their associated audit packages and supporting documentation for Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan;
  • Assist with preparation and submission of Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA) applications;
  • Assist the Lead Emission Specialist with Completing GHG Quantification using protocols for a variety of oil and gas related projects and facility types;
  • Support clients in their annual emission reporting to various regulatory bodies and systems including, but not limited, to the following:
    • National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI)
    • TIER – Benchmarking, Annual Compliance reporting
    • Annual Methane Reporting, AER Directive 60
    • Fugitive Emissions Management Program (FEMP-AER)
    • Methane Reduction Retrofit Compliance Plans (MRRCP - AER)
    • Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA)
    • Benzene Emissions, Glycol Dehydrator Engineering & Operations Sheet (DEOS) and inventory
    • Multi-Sector Air Pollutant Regulations (MSAPR)
  • Provide internal and external advising on provincial and federal air emission regulations including, but not limited to:
    • Technology and Innovation Emission Reduction Regulation (TIER)
    • Air Emission Inventory Reporting (AEIR)
    • Air Modelling Directive (AMD)
    • Directive 60 Compliance Support (D60)
    • Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA) Approvals and Registrations (air portion)
    • National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI)
    • Multi-Sector Air Pollutant Regulations (MSAPR)
    • Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act (GGPPA)
    • Clean Fuel Standard (CFS)

 

QUALIFICATIONS


  • 2-7 years experience in regulatory or environmental roles for the oil and gas industry;
  • Recognized degree / diploma in environmental engineering or environmental science;
  • Required to register with Eco Canada as an EPt. Or EP;
  • Motivated individual with an interest to learn about an emerging greenhouse emissions market space within the oil and gas industry;
  • Strong written and oral communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively and build internal and external relationships related to the role;
  • Technical background that will allow for the development of building skills in GHG quantification and air modelling within the oil and gas industry;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced customer driven environment;
  • Experience with understanding of provincial and federal standards and regulations (as noted above) as well as current compliance requirements and initiatives would be asset; and 
  • Awareness of emerging/future environmental regulations, and ability to strategically plan and integrate for effective and sustainable program development.
