DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Reporting to the Manager, Regulatory and Environmental Development, Energy, the purpose of this position is to support Mcintosh Perry Energy Ltd. (MPEL), our clientele and project engineering staff in evaluating and completing Greenhouse Gas verifications at energy facilities for the following purposes:

  • Lead Third Party greenhouse gas verifications or validations for the following:
    • Alberta’s Technology and Innovation Emission Reduction (TIER)
    • British Columbia Greenhouse Gas Emission Reporting Regulation
    • Output-Based Pricing System Regulation (Saskatchewan)
    • Additional Provincial carbon-related regulations as required.
    • Alberta Carbon Offset Registry (and other carbon markets where applicable)

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead and Manage Greenhouse Gas Verification Projects;
  • Provide education internally and externally on requirements of verification process;
  • Business Development support to grow clientele in new service offering;
  • Must be familiar with various accreditation bodies and assessment requirements and competencies;
  • Assist the company with the SCC accreditation process for Third Party Greenhouse Gas Verifiers; and
  • Keep abreast of emerging requirements that will impact Third Party Verifications at a national level.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Strong technical proficiency in GHG quantification and Carbon Offset protocols within the energy industry;
  • Proven ability to act as Project Manager and balance multiple priorities for clients;
  • Successfully Completed ISO 14064-3: 2006 Greenhouse gases- Part 3 or be willing to do this training upon hire;
  • Must have at least 4 years experience in completing third party verifications;
  • Must meet the requirements of Standard for Validation, Verification and Audit version 5.1 as required by Alberta Environment and Parks as a Lead or Peer Verifier/validator;
  • Awareness of emerging/future environmental regulations, and ability to strategically plan and integrate for effective and sustainable program development;
  • Recognized degree / diploma in environmental engineering or environmental science and professional designation, which is not required but is considered an asset; and
  • Strong written and oral communications skills with the ability to educate both internally and externally to clients.
